Blockbuster
Project: Executive Extranet
Type: Information Services Database/Interface
Overview:
Blockbuster, Inc. is one of the world's leading home entertainment companies. Best known for its video rental retail outlets, which number over 7,900 world-wide, Blockbuster has over 40% market share in rentable home entertainment industry. In reaching their 40 million active customers each month, one of Blockbuster's key strategic marketing tools is BLOCKBUSTER.COM.
In May of 2000, Léger was contacted by Blockbuster New Media's global management team to help create a real-time, virtual management tool, which would allow executive management in 26 market countries to execute any and all global market research information regarding multiple digital distributors (telcos, wireless providers, cable companies, ISPs along with local, national, and international regional demographic data), digital distribution platforms, and geocentric demographic data modeling.
This information was made available to global executive management, along with a financial modeling tool, which allows executives to run financial models inside this new and dynamic industry. This application was mission critical, as the retail executives in most markets were not up to speed on the flood of "New Media" oriented calls they received in the wake of the global distribution deal announced by Blockbuster and Enron. In delivering this extranet application, Léger created a proprietary, automated database entry system, interfaced with an encrypted, web-enabled front-end, completed by an integrated, interactive financial modeling tool for the Blockbuster Executive Committee in less than30 days, and is being used successfully today by Blockbuster management to follow New Media trends in the global digital delivery of entertainment content.
